National carmaker Perodua recently unveiled the final prototype of its electric vehicle (EV) at the Malaysia Auto Show (MAS 2025). In a recent development, the automaker has filed a trademark application for the name “Q-VE” and its accompanying logo with the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO).

With this in mind, it raises the question: could this be the official name of Perodua’s upcoming EV, currently referred to as the eMO? According to Funtasticko, the name was filed for trademark in July last year. The Q-VE logo spotted at the show features blue accents—partially on the ‘Q’ and fully on the ‘E’—a colour widely used in the automotive industry to represent electrification and eco-friendliness.

So far, we know that the Perodua eMO has adopted the form of a four-door fastback, with flush-mounted front door handles and rear door handles tucked into the window line. Both the front and rear ends are fitted with full-width LED light bars, giving the car a modern and futuristic look.

Inside, the eMO features a more realistic and production-ready cabin compared to the earlier concept’s highly futuristic dashboard. Key interior highlights include a high centre console, a digital instrument cluster, soft-touch materials, and a rotary gear selector. The EV is also expected to come with a 360-degree camera and support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. However, close-up photography was restricted during the showcase.

Moreover, as revealed at MAS 2025, Perodua will introduce a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model—the first of its kind in Malaysia. Through this subscription-based model, customers will be able to lease the battery for a monthly fee, potentially reducing upfront costs.

The EV is expected to launch by the end of this year, with pre-production of the eMO set to begin in September at Perodua’s new battery electric vehicle (BEV) facility in Sungai Choh. Initially, the company aims to produce 500 units per month. The eMO will also be the first Perodua model to incorporate hot press-formed steel. CEO Datuk Zainal Abidin Ahmad confirmed that the vehicle’s platform is entirely Perodua’s own intellectual property, with no involvement from Daihatsu.
