After nearly six years, Light Phone has finally updated its minimalist smartphone with the latest iteration, the Light Phone 3. As you can expect from such a big time gap, the phone comes with dramatically improved specs, ditching the outdated micro USB port for USB-C, but the upgrades come at a price — more than double, actually.

The Light Phone 3 replaces the E-ink display with a 3.93-inch 1080p OLED screen with a matte finish. Under the hood, it gets a more powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chipset paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. For connectivity, it now comes with dual-SIM connectivity including e-SIM, with support for 5G, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, and a fingerprint reader.

Imaging-wise, it gets a 50MP back camera and an 8MP front sensor along with a dedicated shutter button. Backing it is a much larger 1,800mAh battery while for protection, it has an IP54 rating for dust and water resistance.

On the software side, it runs on LightOS, which is as minimal as it gets with no app store and essentially no way to install third-party apps as it is meant to be a distraction-free tool for intentional use. The entire UI is set to black-and-white accept for when the camera app is activated, which will be in colour.

The Light Phone 3 is available for pre-order now and is expected to ship this July. It costs a whopping US$799 (~RM3,578), nearly as much as the base iPhone 16, but for a limited time, you can get it at US$599 (~RM2,651).
