Canon has announced that the PowerShot V1, which debuted globally last month, will be arriving in Malaysia soon. The company states that the new point-and-shoot camera will be available locally from April 2025 through its official e-store, Shopee store, and authorised resellers at a recommended retail price of RM3,999.

To recap, the Canon PowerShot V1 features a new Type 1.4 sensor, capturing 22.3MP still images in a 3:2 aspect ratio and shooting up to 30fps with an electronic shutter. For video, it records 4K at 30p using the full sensor width, while 4K at 60p applies a 1.4x crop to manage heat and processing. The camera is paired with a 16-50mm equivalent f/2.8-4.5 zoom lens and Canon’s Dual Pixel AF II, which enables subject tracking, image stabilisation and automatic detection of people, animals, vehicles and eyes.

Designed for extended recording, the PowerShot V1 incorporates a cooling system that allows over two hours of continuous 4K/60p recording without overheating. It also introduces a new “moods” feature, which customises video aesthetics, and a product demo mode that prioritises autofocus on objects held close.

The camera features a three-inch vari-angle LCD as the sole framing option, as it does not include an electronic viewfinder. Connectivity options include Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and USB-C, enabling smartphone tethering via the Canon Connect app. Additionally, it functions as a plug-and-play USB webcam.

Other hardware features include a three-stop ND filter, a multi-function hot shoe for external accessories, and a microphone and headphone jack. It also provides HDMI output and a single SD card slot. However, it lacks a built-in flash.
