If you are planning to buy an electric vehicle, now is the perfect time, as EVs are entering a price war that ultimately benefits consumers. Recently, we saw a significant price reduction for the BYD Atto, and now Chery has joined the fray. Sort of.
Chery is offering a massive RM27,000 rebate on the Omoda E5. With this discount, the Omoda E5 is now priced at RM119,818. This is nearly RM4,000 lower than the BYD Atto Ultra, which currently costs RM123,800.
However, this rebate from Chery is part of their Raya promotion and applies only to 2024 units, while models manufactured this year remain priced at RM146,818. Despite this, the rebate comes with several perks, including a free charging wall box worth RM3,500, a free V2L cable worth RM500, and RM1,000 in charging credits.
As a refresher, the Omoda E5 is juiced by a single motor that gives an output of 204 PS and 340 Nm of torque. This electric SUV does the century sprint in 7.2 seconds and comes with a top speed of 172km/h.
The 61kwh lithium battery in the SUV allows the car to travel a maximum WLTP range of 430 km. With an 80 kW DC fast charging, the car charges from 30% to 80% in just 28 minutes while it supports 9.9 kW for AC charging.
The most significant factor driving these rebates and price cuts is none other than the Proton e.MAS 7. Launched with a competitive price of RM109,800 for the Prime variant and RM123,800 for the Premium variant, this EV has shaken up the market.
Moreover, since its launch back in December, 1000 units have been sold in the span of 2 months has sparked a fierce competition in the EV industry in Malaysia. Thus, to tackle this other EV brands have come up with rebates and price cuts to remain competitive.
Ultimately, this price war presents a golden opportunity for consumers to purchase an EV with their preferred specifications at a more affordable price.
