The Light Rail Transit 3 (LRT3) line, also known as the Shah Alam line, is now scheduled to begin operations on 30 September this year, according to transport minister Anthony Loke. This marks a delay from the previously announced launch date of March 2025.

Loke stated that the 37.8km-long rail project is now 98.63% complete and is expected to be fully handed over to Prasarana Malaysia Bhd by 31 July 2025. In response to a parliamentary inquiry on the project’s status, he outlined the trial run process, which will be carried out in two phases.

The first phase, comprising the trial run (TR) and fault-free run (FFR), will be conducted by the main contractor, Setia Utama LRT3 Sdn Bhd, over a 75-day period from mid-April to late June 2025. This stage will focus on ensuring safety, system reliability, and regulatory compliance under the supervision of the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD).

The second phase, referred to as the trial operation, will be carried out by Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd with technical assistance from the main contractor. This phase is set to last 60 days from July to August 2025 and will only proceed after APAD grants approval following the first phase of testing. The staggered approach aims to ensure operational readiness before the official opening in September.

Originally announced in 2016, LRT3 was initially planned to feature 26 stations but was later revised to 20. Among these are two interchange stations: Bandar Utama which connects to the MRT Kajang Line, and Glenmarie which links to the LRT Kelana Jaya Line. Once operational, the line is expected to improve connectivity between Klang and Petaling Jaya, offering a crucial public transport link for commuters in the Klang Valley.

To recap, below are the list of stations operating along the upcoming LRT3:

  • Bandar Utama
  • Kayu Ara
  • BU 11
  • Damansara Idaman
  • SS7
  • Glenmarie
  • Kerjaya
  • Stadium Shah Alam
  • Dato Menteri
  • UiTM Shah Alam
  • Bandar Baru Klang
  • Pasar Besar Klang
  • Jalan Meru
  • Klang
  • Taman Selatan
  • Seri Andalas
  • Klang Jaya
