Last month, Meizu announced that it was leaving the smartphone market, but that did not stop the company from announcing one more phone. Today, the company has announced a related model for the local market, the Meizu 21.

It’s probably worth mentioning from the start but the Meizu 21 Pro will not be coming to the local market, according to the brand. But coming back to the phone being launched today, it has a 6.55-inch Full HD+ AMOLED screen with up to 120Hz refresh rate. On the inside, the phone runs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, with 12GB of RAM. The battery is rated at 4,800mAh, supporting up to 80W charging.

For its cameras, the Meizu 21 comes with a 200MP main + 13MP wide angle / macro + 5MP depth sensor combo at the back. In front, it has a 32MP shooter.

The Meizu 21 comes with in two storage options, which are 256GB and 512GB. These are priced at RM2,999 and RM3,299 respectively. You can get them via the company’s official store on both Lazada and Shopee. The company says that it will get at least three years of updates.

Finally, to address the reports of the company leaving the smartphone market, a representative at the launch downplayed the company’s exit from the market. Which is quite the opposite of what the chairman and CEO of the Xingji Meizu Group said in his announcement video last month.

According to Jacob Jin, overseas sales director of Xingji Meizu Group, the company says that its “All in AI” strategy means it will be putting AI into all of its products, including its phones. As for the phones themselves, the company will continue to produce them, but they may be called something else, or even with different form factors. Which is all very contrived ways of walking back the prior grandiose announcement.
