Garmin launched the vivoactive 4 locally all the way back in 2019. Now, four years later, it is finally getting a sequel, in the form of the vivoactive 5. Being released shortly after the Venu 3, the vivoactive 5 does inherit some of the new featured in the pricier smartwatch, as its predecessor did.
Compared to the predecessor model, the Garmin vivoactive 5 boasts a better battery life, now capable of lasting up to 11 days in smartwatch mode. This goes down to five days if you engage the always-on display, or 21 hours with GPS engaged. Beyond that, the display is now a 1.2-inch 390 x 390 AMOLED panel, with a layer of Gorilla Glass 3 on top and surrounded by an anodized aluminium bezel. The case itself is noted as fibre-reinforced polymer.
As you’d expect from a smartwatch of today, the vivoactive 5 comes with all sorts of sports tracking capabilities. Figures provided by the brand include “over 30 preloaded GPS and indoor sports apps” as well as “more than 1,600″ with the Connect app”. The aforementioned 11-day battery life also allows it to perform its sleep tracking duties, and provide you with “around-the-clock health metrics”. If you need it, there’s personalised sleep coaching and nap detection too.
The Garmin vivoactive 5 is priced at US$299.99 (~RM1,407), with multiple colourways to choose from. No local pricing and availability details yet, though we won’t be surprised if they showed up in a month or so.
