Low-cost carrier AirAsia has announced another round of fixed fares to address the issue of skyrocketing flight prices during major festive seasons. This time, the airline is fixing fares for flights to and from Sabah as well as Sarawak during the upcoming Raya celebration.

The special extra flights for Sarawak and Sabah routes cost RM199 and RM249 one-way respectively. The travel period for these flights is between 19 to 21 April 2023 and 28 to 30 April 2023 although all of them are late-night flights.

The fixed-fare flights only have two Peninsular destinations, namely Kuala Lumpur and Johor Bahru. As for Sabah and Sarawak locations, you can choose Miri, Sibu, Kuching, Bintulu, Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan, and Tawau, although the Johor Bahru routes only cover a few of these destinations.

Bookings are already open as we speak and will last all the way until 30 April 2023. Additionally, BigPay users will get 5% off all AirAsia flights with flight code ‘AK’ for a year by using the promo code “BIGPAY5”.

“These fixed fares will enable thousands of people to ‘balik kampung’ and reunite with their nearest and dearest in an affordable manner,” said Transport Minister Anthony Loke. In December, while the minister encouraged airlines to fix fares for festive seasons, he said that the government has no plans to enforce a ceiling price.

This is the second time this year that AirAsia has launched fixed-fare flights for a major holiday, with the last time the company implemented such an initiative being during Chinese New Year. Just like before, if you fail to snag a ticket for one of the special flights, you could still book one of the airline’s regular flights for Raya, but it will likely be more expensive due to the high demand.

Last month, AirAsia replaced its AirAsia Virtual Allstar (AVA) chatbot with a new AI chatbot named Ask Bo, named and modelled after the Group CEO of AirAsia Aviation Group, Bo Lingam. The new chatbot is equipped with more languages and features, along with a promise that sometime in March, users will be able to use Ask Bo to get to live agents.
