iPhone SE 4 May Use OLED Screens By BOE Instead Of Samsung, LG

The phone itself was predicted by an analyst to be a modified iPhone 14.

Apple announced the third iteration of its iPhone SE last year, and rumours about a fourth have already started to surface. These rumours paint a picture of the iPhone SE 4 seeing a 2024 release. Adding to that is the claim that these phones by the fruit company will be using OLED screens by a Chinese display maker, Beijing Oriental Electronics (BOE), rather than the usual suspects Samsung or LG.

South Korean news outlet The Elec reports that BOE is expected to supply the 6.1-inch OLED displays that will be equipped on the iPhone SE 4. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo previously made the prediction that the more budget-friendly device will be a “minor modification” of the iPhone 14. Which is fitting in its own way, as the BOE previously supplied Apple with screens for last year’s line of phones. This likely translates to lower costs for both companies in the production process for the iPhone SE 4.

The report also noted that BOE failed to deliver the initial batch of screens for the iPhone 15 that met Apple’s demands. While the company did manage to sort things out, its displays will reportedly only be used for repairs that the phoned may need during its lifespan. On the other hand, display giants Samsung and LG will be the ones to provide the screens that will be attached to the new phones when they hit shelves.

On the subject of screens, Bloomberg reported earlier this year that Apple is working on being able to produce its own displays for its products. These will feature what is called microLEDs, and are expected to show up as early as 2024. Though the company is thought to be starting small first, literally, as it rolls out its own screens on smaller products like the high end Apple Watches, namely the Ultra variant.
