Casio Malaysia has announced that the G-Shock x Super Mario collaborative watch which saw a global launch last month will be arriving in Malaysia soon. Unlike the previous Tag Heuer versions, this release features the line’s signature rugged build in the form of the classic G-Shock DW-500 model.

In a way, this collaboration can be considered a match made in heaven, as the original Super Mario video game and this particular G-Shock model both saw a rise in popularity in the latter half of the 1980s. In fact, complementing the watch’s iconic vintage design is a colour scheme that’s based on Mario’s design.

More specifically, its body is decked out in red, while the area surrounding its watch face is coloured in blue. For those unfamiliar, the former colour choice is based on the titular character’s shirt and cap, whereas the latter represents the colour of his overalls. Meanwhile, found all over the watch’s strap are Mario’s original in-game sprite.

Super Mario theme aside, the timepiece (officially designated as DW-500SMB-4) shares the same traits and features as the base model. These include both G-Shock and the series’ signature shock resistant build, a weight of about 53g, a battery life of about two years, and 200 m water resistance. However, unique to this collaborative model is an EL backlight which shows a silhouette of a jumping Mario with a 1UP icon next to him when activated.

While the watch has been confirmed for a local release, Casio Malaysia did not provide a date just yet, promising that it will be “coming soon.” Nevertheless, the G-Shock x Super Mario DW-500SMB-4 timepiece is set to retail for RM 749 when it eventually lands in the country, and can be purchased via the brand’s official e-commerce website, G-Shock stores, G-Factory, and authorised dealers nationwide.
