Non-Pro DJI Mini 3 Launching In Malaysia Soon; Spotted In SIRIM Database

Naturally, this variant is expected to be more affordable than its high-end sibling.

The much rumoured standard variant of the DJI Mini 3 aerial drone is looking to launch in Malaysia very soon, based on our findings. After a quick search on SIRIM’s e-ComM database, we’ve discovered that the device (registered under official DJI distributor Azure Telecommunications Sdn Bhd) has been recently approved by the organisation on 2 December 2022.

Just in case you missed it, DJI initially launched the Pro version of Mini 3 back in May this year. It came with a 48 MP 1/1.3-inch sensor that is capable of recording 4K videos at 60 fps, a 3-axis gimbal, Tri-Directional Obstacle Sensing system, an estimated maximum flight time of 34 minutes (47 minutes when used together with the Intelligent Flight Battery Plus), and an included DJI RC remote controller.

While there are no official specifications revealed just yet, reputable sources such as  DealsDrone and OsitaLV claim that the standard DJI Mini 3 will lack mostly in the obstacle avoidance department in favour of a more affordable price tag. More specifically, it is suggested that this particular variant will lose the front-facing sensors, whereas the downward sensors will instead be mono rather than stereo. Additionally, the leaksters add that the drone could only support a range of only 10 km, as opposed to the longer 12 km range of its sibling.

Apart from that, it is believed the upcoming vanilla model retains the design, camera, battery capacity, and onboard features as the DJI Mini 3 Pro. Furthermore, the SIRIM listing revealed that the drone will come with the same DJI RC remote controller as well.

On a related note, it has been revealed that the standard variant is already being sold at a store in the US, according to two users on Twitter. On display is what appears to be the Fly More combo – which consists of the drone, the DJI RC controller, two-way charging hub, shoulder bag, and extra propellers – retailing at US$ 859.99 (~RM 3,755). The same combo for the Mini 3 Pro is currently priced at US$ 1,098 (locally at RM 4,199).

Pricing for the standalone package for the DJI Mini 3 is still not known at this time, but you can expect it to be more affordable than the high-end model that is currently retailing for RM 3,399. The vanilla model’s local availability is unknown for now, but seeing that it has already been approved by SIRIM as well as already appearing on store shelves in the US, an official launch could potentially happen in a couple of weeks or even days.
