Xiaomi Malaysia has officially confirmed that its upcoming launch event next week will see the local debut of the Lite variant of its Xiaomi 12 flagship series. As you may recall, this particular model was launched for the global market early last month – not long after the unveiling of the China-exclusive 12S series, which are the brand’s first smartphones to feature an imaging system co-developed with its new partner Leica.
To recap, the Xiaomi 12 Lite sports a flat 6.55-inch AMOLED display with a refresh rate of 120Hz, touch sampling rate of 240Hz, HDR10+ and Dolby Vision support, as well as Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. The phone itself comes with dual speakers, an under-display fingerprint scanner, a USB-C port, and is offered in Black, Pink, and Green colour options.
Internally, the upcoming handset is equipped with a 5G-enabled Snapdragon 778G chipset. This is paired together with an Adreno 642L GPU, 8GB RAM and a maximum storage capacity of 256GB. Besides that, it also comes with dual SIM support with dual 5G standby, Android 12 via Xiaomi’s MIUI 13 platform, as well as WiFi, NFC and Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity.
Meanwhile, powering the Xiaomi 12 Lite is a 4,300mAh battery with 67W fast charging support. Based on its global release, a 67W charger is expected to be included together with the smartphone.
Unfortunately, the new Lite variant won’t feature a Leica-developed imaging system, but it does come with a triple camera setup with a 108MP primary shooter. This is paired together with an 8MP ultrawide and a 2MP macro sensor. Meanwhile, housed within the cutout on its display is a 32MP front-facing camera.
The new Xiaomi 12 Lite is slated to launch in Malaysia on 18 August 2022, where further details regarding its availability and pricing is expected to be revealed by then. For your reference, the global version of the phone is currently retailing at US$ 400 (~RM 1,770) for the 6GB + 128GB configuration, US$ 450 (~RM 1,992) for the 8GB + 128GB, and US$ 500 (~RM 2,213) for 8GB + 256GB version.
