Nintendo Switch OLED Gets A Splatoon 3 Special Edition

The first special edition for the OLED model.

Nintendo has made plenty of special edition Switch models with motifs from its games. Though now that the OLED model is out and about, it’s the one version that’s lacking such an edition. Until now that is, as the company has announced a Splatoon 3-themed Switch OLED.

Compared to the very plain looking standard Nintendo Switch OLED, which only comes in plain white, the Splatoon 3 special edition is decidedly lively. The dock, the plainest looking of the bunch, is beautifully decorated with subtle prints with motifs from the game, with an overt ink splat on the bottom left corner. Even the main unit has its back smothered in squids and ink splats.

The two Joy-Cons, on the other hand, come in purple and green, also with art from the game, making for a very lively looking handheld console hybrid. The bottom half of each Joy-Con is still white, but here it’s textured, in a sense with the kind of pattern that you might see on an actual squid.

According to the Nintendo announcement, the company will also have a Splatoon 3-themed Pro controller and carrying case. But the company did not show what either of those look like.

Since Splatoon 3 will only be releasing on 9 September, this special edition Nintendo Switch OLED won’t be out for awhile either. That being said, the console is still releasing two weeks earlier than the game. Specifically, it will be out on 26 August. When it comes, it will be priced at US$359.99 (~RM1593). Worth noting, though is that, despite this being a special edition tied to a game, the handheld console won’t come with the game itself, so you’ll have to buy that separately if you want it. As for the Pro controller and carrying case, these will be priced at US$74.99 (~RM332) and US$24.99 (~RM111), respectively.
