WhatsApp Will Soon Let You Leave Groups Quietly

There will be no more unwanted attention when you exit a WhatsApp group.

WhatsApp is apparently working on a new feature that will delight users who feel that they have been added into way too many groups. WABetaInfo reported that the app’s latest beta app for desktop had added the ability to silently exit groups, a feature which WhatsApp teased last month.

At the moment, whenever someone leaves a group on WhatsApp, every member will be notified of their exit. With the upcoming iteration, only the group admin will receive a notification when a member leaves the group, allowing you to purge yourself without bringing any unwanted attention.

While the feature was sighted in the desktop beta, WABetaInfo claimed that it should also be coming to beta users on iOS and Android in the future. Another interesting update is that WABetaInfo also spotted another feature that lets users see all the past participants of a group, so you will still leave behind a digital trail even though you will be able to leave quietly.

The “past participants” feature reportedly will be accessible for everyone in the group instead of just being restricted to admins. Of course, both of these features are still under development so it is not known when they will be rolled out to the public.

Groups on WhatsApp have received major updates in the last few months, with 2GB file sharing, 32 person audio calls, emoji reactions, and the ability for admins to moderate by deleting specific messages. The Facebook subsidiary also rolled out Communities, a feature that lets several groups with similar interests band together under one umbrella.

Other exciting features that are in the works for the platform include using two smartphones with one number, chat filtering, and group polls. WhatsApp is also developing a way to make messaging new numbers easier without having to add them to your contacts and adjust privacy settings for specific contacts.
