For around two million youths aged 18 to 20 years old as well as full-time students at local higher education institutions, today marked the start of the ePemula program whereby they can claim free RM150 credit through BigPay, GrabPay, ShopeePay, and TNG eWallet.

As it turns out, the free e-wallet credit does come with certain restrictions. This was revealed through a FAQ document

that the Ministry of Finance has uploaded to ePemula’s mini-site and has also been noted by all four official ePemula e-wallet services in their terms and conditions for the program.

The four official ePemula e-wallet services.

For starters, it can’t be used for online and e-commerce transactions. In other words, the RM150 credit can only be used at physical locations but not at your favourite e-commerce platforms even though they may support any of the ePemula e-wallets as a payment method.

Below is the list of other transactions that can’t be performed using the free RM150 credit:

  • peer-to-peer transfers
  • cash-outs
  • app-integrated payment of utility bills
  • app-integrated payment of Government related fees/payments
  • app-integrated payment of telco postpaid bills and prepaid service top-ups
  • app-integrated games purchases;
  • app-integrated parking and/or toll fees payments
  • app-integrated investment-related activities

As mentioned in our earlier report, eligible individuals are able to claim the ePemula credit until 1 June 2022. In addition to that, they also must spend all of the RM150 credit by 11:59 PM on 10 June 2022.
