Last week, AMD officially broke its silence over the Exynos 2200, the Korean brand’s latest flagship SoC and first-ever mobile processor to be fitted with AMD’s RDNA2-based Xclipse 920 GPU. While its arrival was undoubtedly long-awaited since such collaboration was first announced as far back as 2020, details of its performance are still scarce. Until now.

According to Tom’s Hardware, evidence of the Exynos 2200’s prowess and more specifically, the performance ratings of the RDNA2 GPU, recently appeared on the Geekbench 5 GPU scoreboard. The device being used with it is obviously a Samsung device, but instead of a more consumer-ready name, it simply goes by the label SM-S908B. Further specification details show that the phone is also running on Android 12 and 8GB RAM, along with 384 Stream Processors that were operating at a frequency of 555MHz.

In spite of the low frequency, The Xclipse 920 registered a total OpenCL score of 9143. By comparison, that’s virtually double Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888’s GPU score of 4853 on the same benchmark. Having said that, the Xclipse 920 is still not quite as deft as the Apple A15 SoC that’s used in the iPhone 13 Pro.

As interesting as the numbers are, it is important to keep in mind that these numbers are very likely to have been obtained through pre-production hardware, meaning that the actual and final performance numbers are clearly going to be different. So, take it with a large grain of salt.
