Here’s a feature that would be nice if everyone has access to it. Sony Interactive Entertainment is giving access to a six-hour free trial for two games to PS5 owners in the UK. The two games in question are Death Stranding and Sackboy: A Big Adventure. But there are a couple of huge caveats to this.
For one, the six-hour window starts the moment you hit the “Download Trial” button via the PS5, or claim it through the website. Which means that if it takes you three hours to download any of the games, then you’ll have three remaining to actually play. If you take a break, that gets cut into your six hour limit as well. And then there’s the second caveat, which is that you can only pick one of the two games to try per account. To a lesser extent, there’s a third caveat, and that’s the fact that this free trial deal lasts only until 28 October.
We’ve tried to see if this was something that’s available to Malaysian owners of the PS5 console. Sadly, at least at the time of writing, the answer appears to be no. And it does appear to be specifically a UK only thing, and a PS5 only thing at that, judging from a Reddit post discussing the trial.
Here’s hoping that this gets extended to other regions, including ours, and that the trial window actually only ticks down while players are actually playing the game. For now, SIE has not said anything about doing either.
