Here Is How Ride-Sharing Firms Are Helping You Keep Your Vaccine Appointment

It is now more crucial than ever for each of us to get vaccinated to protect our loved ones, especially those who fall into the “highly vulnerable” category. Unfortunately, not everyone has access to vaccines, even if they manage to get an appointment. This is because many senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWD) lack transportation.

Luckily, some companies have stepped up to provide subsidised or even free transportation for those who need to get their shot. Logistics shouldn’t be an issue for your loved ones to get a life-saving vaccine, so here’s how you can book a ride for them.

GoCar’s GoVAX Programme

On-demand car rental company GoCar has collaborated with Kampung Tunku assemblyperson Lim Yi Wei to introduce the GoVAX programme, a corporate social responsibility programme that provides free transportation to senior citizens above 60 years old and PWDs within the Petaling district, including Petaling Jaya, Subang Jaya, parts of Shah Alam, and Kota Damansara.

All you need to do is call them at 1300-30-2633 or drop a request in the GoVAX Shuttle Service via the GoCar mobile app and they will confirm your booking within 24 hours. One person is allowed to accompany the vaccine recipient.

Its chief executive officer Wong Hoe Mun said those who already had their first jab are also eligible for the free shuttle for their second shot. The service is available until 31 August.

Currently, the programme serves five vaccination centres in the Petaling district:

  1. Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre
  2. Hospital Shah Alam
  3. IDCC Shah Alam
  4. Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC)
  5. Klinik Rakan Medik

Grabcar: RM8 Off Four Rides For Senior Citizens

Grabcar, the e-hailing giant with a nationwide network, has come out with the vaccination programme for senior citizens. Those above 60 years old need to verify themselves on GrabPay using MyKad before 7 June and an RM8 discount code for four rides will be given by 12 June, enough for both shots. The discount codes can then be used for any vaccination centres nationwide.
