Petronas Explores Delivery Business With Logistika

Did you know that Petronas now operates a B2B (business-to-business) delivery service called Logistika? Neither did we until very recently. So we decided to look into it and what we found was quite interesting.

Launched last year, Logistika describes itself as a reliable courier service with a 98% record of successful next-day deliveries. It offers prices of as low as RM5.50 per parcel up to a maximum weight of 10kg. Right now, the service is only available in the Klang Valley, but there are plans to expand the coverage area in the future.

Logistika is quick to highlight that it’s a postpaid service, meaning customers can start shipping parcels immediately and pay later. The company invoices its customers during the first week of every month, giving them 14 days to make payment.

What makes Logistika interesting is it leverages on Petronas’ expansive network of petrol stations. Right now, the service operates out of seven Petronas “hubs” across Selangor and Kuala Lumpur, where parcels are picked up or stored (if parcel delivery is unsuccessful). More hubs will be added as the coverage area is expanded.

From a wider perspective, Petronas’ entry into the delivery business is understandable, given the impact of COVID-19 on the oil and gas industry. The company reported a loss of RM21 billion for the 2020 financial year, according to The Edge.

Relatedly, AirAsia also took a beating during the pandemic and re-oriented its cargo logistics arm, Teleport, towards general (including courier and food) delivery. Of course, Teleport also delivers parcels overseas – thanks to AirAsia’s planes. But back here at home, Logistika might prove to be a formidable competitor.

For more information, you can visit Logistika’s website.
