Instagram has added a lot of features in addition to the main reason you use the app. As a result, the user experience can feel really cluttered. For those who want a more stripped back experience, the company has now launched Instagram Lite.

Announced during the Facebook Fuel For India event, Instagram Lite is, as the name suggests, very lightweight. It comes in at less than 2MB in size, and strips itself of its additional features like Reels, Shopping and IGTV. You still get access to Stories from the look of things.

Being so stripped back, this makes Instagram Lite the version of the app to have on phones that have less storage space. Android Go devices come to mind. The reduction of features can also lead to less data usage to an extent.

Being launched in India, Instagram Lite supports multiple regional languages of the country. But at the same time, this version of the app is also currently only available there. No word on when it will become available in other regions as of yet. Though according to XDA, the company had an earlier version of the app, which it shut down earlier in the year. Like this one, it was only available in select markets like Mexico, Kenya and the Philippines.
