Back in June, Spotify released real-time lyrics for its users. Now, it looks like the music streaming service is expanding on this with a Karaoke Mode.
Serial app reverse engineer Jane Manchun Wong shared this discovery on Twitter. From the screenshots, a microphone icon will be added to the Spotify mobile app when the feature goes live. Which can be a tad confusing as the microphone icon is currently used as the lyrics switch on the desktop software.
But on mobile, when you tap on it, there will be the option to have more or less vocals. Presumably, this option applies to the default song file, so you can control the level of vocal backup you get.

The feature will likely be riding on its current partnership with Musixmatch and the lyrics is provided. At least one song will make use of this, and that is Rick Astley’s Never Gonna Give You Up, as tested by Wong.
This can be a feature that sees a lot of use, now that traffic seems to have reverted to the pre-COVID-19 days. You can probably use this to scream your heart out while driving. But since the feature is still undergoing testing, it may take awhile before it becomes available to the general public.
