In conjunction with the implementation of the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO), the Selangor government has introduced a new COVID-19 contact tracing system called SELangkah. The initiative, as explained by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, is a registration system for individuals entering any business premises in the state during the CMCO.

He added that owners are required to register their premises via the SELangkah portal in order to obtain a unique QR code to be printed out. Starting tomorrow on 5 May 2020, the code must be visibly displayed at business premises for visitors to scan.

“The SELangkah initiative is intended to facilitate the registration of individuals entering any premises in the state easily and quickly,” said Amirudin Shari in a statement today. “It aims to protect business premises and customers, as well as assist frontliners, in the fight against COVID-19.”

The public can scan these QR codes by using their cameras (Android users are encouraged to download the Google Lens application), and provide their details to the SELangkah portal for logging purposes. The Menteri Besar explained that the visitors log would be regulated by the state government and public health officers. This would facilitate and speed up contact detection in the event of a COVID-19 infection at the premises.

“It is hoped this initiative will be a new normal for economic activities during the CMCO. Efforts to control the spread of COVID-19 infection will only be effective when everyone plays their part,” Amirudin added.
