There are plenty of companies that you wouldn’t have expected to be fighting the COVID-19 pandemic. Apple is one of them, with its announcement earlier in the month that it’s donating face shields to frontliners. Now, the company released design and production instructions for other companies that may want to make their own.
Apple prefaces the instructions with a warning that the project should only be undertaken by professionals in a factory environment. Interestingly, the company is also offering support to those who need assistance with the fabrication of the face shields.
The page also details the required materials to make the face shields, and possible alternatives to them. This is followed by the face shield design, and a link to assembly instructions once they have been made.
Based on the way Apple prefaced the instruction set, it’s definitely not a project to be undertaken by just anyone. For companies that are able, they will be able to play a part in keeping the supply of one element of personal protective equipment (PPE) flowing.
