Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob brought down the hammer on people who have broken the ongoing Movement Control Order (MCO) with a variety of excuses. From now until the MCO lifts, the majority ATMs will temporarily lose their 6AM to 11.59PM operational status and only be open from 8AM to 8PM, daily. This also applies to ATMs that have 24-hours operational status.
The minister claims that the government has had no choice in enforcing this order due to some individuals bypassing checkpoints under the pretext of needing to withdraw cash from the ATM due to an emergency. Because ATMs normally operate round the clock, individuals who use this excuse form long queues at these places as an indirect effect. Making these areas a potential hotbed of infection.
We’ve said this many times, but we strongly advise that you stay indoors for the remainder of the MCO, which is scheduled to end on 28 April. Provided that the government isn’t a given a reason to extend it further. As it stands, MCO violators will be immediately arrested and no longer be slapped with an RM1000 fine.
