You pick up your cellphone and do a quick check on what movies are on for the month of April. Hmm. “Hey Siri. Where are the superhero movies?”, you ask your trusty AI assistant. “Where are the gargantuan monster fights and the furious cars and the big guns?” to which Siri promptly replies “The summer season’s job is to stay away from people, emulating the very sane process you are living out right now.”. You weep, falling into despair at the loss of life’s meaning.
Fret not, as Netflix has heard the desolate cries across the globe and heeded the call for action by dropping a new trailer for Chris Hemsworth’s Extraction!
Based on a 2014 graphic novel, Extraction tells the tale of Tyler Rake, a mercenary played by the hunky Chris Hemsworth, who goes on a mission to save the kidnapped son of an international crime lord. But things go sideways along the way and Rake develops a soft spot for the child, beginning his path to redemption. Can he break his inner demons and survive through the real-world perils in order to become a better man?
Sam Hargraves, who is known for his stunt work in several Marvel Cinematic Universe films makes his directorial debut with this. So, you can expect some sweet fireball action to be translated into this film. We’re talking high-paced combat, dangerous leaps, and whole lot of explosives. Oh, and the Russo bros, you know the ones who made little outings such as Avengers: Endgame, wrote and produced it.
I’m not going to lie, it’s got ‘generic-action-flick’ written all over its yellow-filtered skies. But if Extraction’s going to provide a decently good time as 21 Bridges did (which the Russo bros also produced), I’m down for it. Bring on that lightning, Hemsworth, cos you’re officially lighting the torch for the summer!
