Aside from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), another tech-related government agency that has been affected by the COVID-19 outbreak is SIRIM. As it turns out, one of its staff at the agency’s headquarters in Shah Alam has also been tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday.
According to its media statement, SIRIM has immediately sanitized its HQ. The agency has also embarked on contact tracing and has asked those who were in close contact with the affected staff to perform health screenings and self-quarantine immediately.
Even though there are no such cases at other SIRIM’s offices, the agency has also begun to screen visitors at entry points over there. SIRIM has also decided to increase the frequency of daily cleaning work at its offices especially at high traffic and usage areas.
However, the announcement didn’t reveal whether the COVID-19 case has affected SIRIM’s operation or otherwise. Hence, we not able to gauge if there is a disruption to the agency’s certification department but of course, it goes without saying that health and safety is a much bigger priority at the moment.
