Samsung Galaxy S20 Reportedly Features An AirDrop-like Function Called Quick Share

Tossing aside the usual Galaxy S20 leaks, the new flagship from Samsung reportedly includes a new function that somewhat mirrors Airdrop on Apple devices. Called “Quick Share”, the feature apparently allows simple file transfers between two Galaxy devices.

XDA reports that the new feature’s APK file provided to them was extracted from a Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus, presumably the very same phone that was leaked to the website’s journalist Max Winebach. While they’ve managed to get it to run on their phones, the feature was unable to complete a transfer. This was most likely due to the fact their devices weren’t supported.

The report also mentioned that Quick Share will also include a cloud aspect, which allows files up to 1GB to be temporarily uploaded to the Samsung Cloud. The files can then be streamed to Samsung Smart Things and downloaded locally.

XDA speculates that the new function will likely be included on all Samsung devices launching with One UI 2.1 onwards, which includes the upcoming Galaxy S20 series. They added that it might also be possible for the company to include Quick Share in an update for previous smartphone models from the brand.

Whether this new function would really make a debut along with the Samsung Galaxy S20 series is unconfirmed for now. Well, we have a couple of weeks more to actually find out.
