HMD Global Pledges To Update Nokia Android Go Phones To Android 10 Go

if there is a single brand out there that’s most synonymous with Android Go, chances are it’s Nokia. HMD Global has been producing a fair number of them since the Nokia 1. And it looks like the company is also working to bring the latest version, Android 10 Go, to its Android Go devices.

Juho Sarvikas, Chief Product Officer of HMD Global, tweeted as much, with what looks like a rollout schedule. According to the image in the tweet, there will be at least three phones getting the Android 10 Go treatment. The first is the Nokia 1 Plus, which will be getting it in Q1 of 2020. This is followed by the Nokia 1 and Nokia 2.1, which will get the update in the quarter after that.

Entry level smartphone experience should not be a compromise. #Google proves it with new #Android 10 Go edition offering rich experiences with even better memory mgmt, performance & security. We are working to bring them first on #Nokia smartphones 🙏https://t.co/6K9QaYCY2p pic.twitter.com/5jWHrJPV4q

To quickly recap, Android 10 Go features improved performance, but most importantly, it comes with Adiantum encryption. This gives Android Go devices a level of security on par with phones running regular Android, without taking a hit in the performance department.

Based on the tweeted timeline, it’s quite a long wait before any Nokia phones get Android 10 Go. Granted, these are phones that have been around for awhile, and it’s nice to see them getting updated at all. Google, on the other hand, said that new Android Go devices getting released beginning in fall will come with Android 10 Go out of the box.
