The Malaysian press screening of Jon Favreau’s The Lion King live-action remake will be held tomorrow, but reactions by those who were lucky enough to catch the world premiere in the US have already flooded the Twitter-sphere. And to nobody’s surprise, the movie has received positive comments from critics across the board. Reviewers are calling this movie “visually stunning,” “magical,” “faithful to the original” and “fresh.” Steve Weintraub from Collider.com even went as far as to compare the atmosphere during the premiere to a rock concert.
Well, it looks like The Lion King is going to be everything we’ve been hoping for and more, both visually stunning and absolutely spellbinding.
Check out the early reactions by critics below:
#TheLionKing combines gorgeously realistic CG with heart, humor and the same story/beats of the original. It also captures the same magical feeling of the animated movie and remains faithful to its spirit. Most of the voice acting works well and the music once again stands out.

Been lucky to have attended a number of world premieres but not sure I've ever heard as much clapping during a movie as I did tonight at #TheLionKing . Was like being at a rock concert. Movie is going to make so much money. pic.twitter.com/rnU4qf92mt

#TheLionKing is visually immaculate & a game-changer for visual effects. It’s absolutely stunning in every way. The music shines (Glover & Beyoncé take it to another level), the performances are great (Timon, Pumbaa & Scar steal many scenes) & the emotions run HIGH. Truly great pic.twitter.com/lPH9Oo4ybb
