Idris Elba Reportedly To Replace Will Smith in Suicide Squad Sequel

David Ayer’s Suicide Squad was an epic fail to say the least. Sure it may have performed well at the global box office, grossing around $US 746 million, but the film certainly didn’t sit well with a lot of comic book fans and critics too as evident by its 27% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

While the film does have its fair share of loyal supporters (more power to you if you’re one), there’s also no denying the fact that it was a product of so much studio meddling and behind the scenes nonsense, a full-length documentary could be made about it. However, if there’s one aspect of the movie that everybody agreed on, it is this: Margot Robbie and Will Smith were excellent as Harley Quinn and Deadshot.

Unfortunately, it was recently reported that Harley Quinn (the character) and Will Smith (the actor) will not be returning for the Suicide Squad sequel, set to be helmed by the visionary director of Guardians of the Galaxy 1 & 2, James Gunn.

Well, now it looks like Warner Bros and DC have found a substitute for Will Smith and it is perfect! Variety reports that Idris Elba is set to play Deadshot in the sequel. That being said, it is important to note that Warner Bros has not released an official statement confirming the news.

Then again, Justin Kroll is one of the most reliable reporters in the biz so the news definitely holds some weight.

What’s also interesting about the Variety article is that it brings up the possibility of Harley Quinn returning as well, which is baffling and totally contradicts the news that broke about a month ago. Considering Robbie’s Harley Quinn was a fan favourite in the first Suicide Squad, we’re hoping that this news is true as well.

Suicide Squad 2/The Suicide Squad is set to hit the big screens on 6 August 2021.
