The self-lacing or power-lacing system is closely associated with Nike thanks to its work in the iconic sci-fi movie, Back To The Future which etched the system into the mind of the masses. Truth to be told though, there are still plenty of companies out there that are also working to come out with such system including the German sportswear brand, Puma.

Earlier this week, Puma has unveiled the latest iteration of its self-lacing system called Fi which is an abbreviation of Fit Intelligence. Alongside it, the company has also revealed the first shoe to feature the system which is also called Fi.

Designed for training and running, Puma Fi self-lacing module is equipped right on the center part of the shoes’ upper. Wearers can easily tighten or loosen up Puma Fi shoes by swiping up or down on the module. Alternatively, they can also adjust the fit through a smartphone app and Apple Watch.

If you are interested to get your hands on a pair, you have to wait till 2020 though but then again, this would give you enough time to come up with the funds to match its USD 330 (about RM 1352) price tag.

Meanwhile, Puma is also planning to allow members of the public to participate in open beta test with the shoes in the future by signing up through its PUMATRAC training app very soon although we are not sure whether the beta test program will cover Malaysia as well. We will be reaching out to Puma shortly, so we’ll get back you once we hear more from the company.
