The Minister of Communications and Multimedia, Gobind Singh Deo has stated that the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia (KKMM) will increase its effort this year to achieve faster Internet speed at lower prices. The remark was made during his address to KKMM staff earlier today.

In his speech, Gobind has also pointed out that the minister will be looking into several aspects regarding Internet in Malaysia including issues that are being faced by telecommunication companies. At the same time, it is also planning to implement some change to the existing Communications and Multimedia Act.

Among the changes that KKMM is currently considering include a higher amount of penalty that would be imposed on license holders that didn’t adhere to the instructions from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

All in all, it is good to hear that the government is still committed to the cause. However, the minister has yet to reveal the exact target for the price reduction and speed increment that the industry has to achieve in 2019.

Furthermore, there are still many users out there that have been waiting for so long for their issues to be addressed especially when it comes to the pricing of Streamyx which have yet to be revised. It might only be the first month of 2019 but since the commitment has been made, we hope that actions will follow through diligently as well.
