Rumours of a cut down down version of the Samsung Galaxy S8 appear to have been true. The smartphone has appeared in China as the Samsung Galaxy S Lite Luxury, and appears to be exclusive to the region.
For the most part, the Galaxy S Lite Luxury is only related to the Galaxy S8 in the sense that the two phones look the same. It would appear that Samsung has kept the chassis but changed everything else.
The 18.5:9 aspect ratio 5.8-inch Infinity Display remains, but the resolution has been reduced to FHD+. Inside is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. Powering all this is a 3,000mAh battery. The only really new thing about the Galaxy S Lite Luxury is the fact that it runs on Android Oreo.
There’s also the 16-megapixel rear camera paired with a fingerprint sensor. However, there is no heart rate sensor. Keeping in theme with the reduced specifications.
Samsung is releasing the Galaxy S Lite Luxury in two colours, Burgundy Red and Midnight Black. Either will retail for ¥3999 (RM2500) and are being sold through JD.com. It’s entirely unclear if this phone will ever leave China, but it doesn’t seem likely at this point.
