Google is said to be looking to revamp Google News with a new design, this time with a greater focus on video. It’s said to be incorporating elements of the Newsstand app and YouTube; consolidating various parts of the service into something more manageable.
As a result, it is understood that Newsstand will cease to exist as an app. Having been absorbed into the new Google News service. At the same time, there will be a new Google News app in its place.
What the new Google News will contain is largely uncertain. Ad Age believes that it will include greater cooperation with publishers; hopefully giving more back to them in terms of revenue. Content providers have long struggled with the idea of giving away free articles through Google News; especially in the face of reduced readership and income.
That said, the revamped Google News is said to use Accelerated Mobile Pages. Technology that simplifies pages and allows them to be loaded more quickly.
The new Google News service is expected to be announced during the Google I/O developer conference later this week.
