Google Supposedly In Talks To Promote Branded ‘How To’ Videos For The Google Assistant

Google has reportedly been in talks with major brands to promote a series of ‘how to’ videos through its AI assistant. The idea would be to monetise the Google Assistant; giving the company yet another revenue stream.

The plan is automatically provide instructions to users who ask for help with a particular task like changing a car tire or a specific recipe. In this case, the instructions would be sponsored by a related brand; allowing them to push their own products.

No concrete plans have been made at the moment. Google is said to be ready to reveal the initiative at its I/O conference next month, but the feature will not be ready for several months after that. The company has already supposedly reached out to brands that deal with beauty, DIY, and consumer goods.

It’s no surprise that Google is looking to make money off the Google Assistant, especially with the push to get the Google Home speaker into more households. Brands can currently create sponsored actions for the AI assistant; allowing people to interact more closely with their products. However, this needs to be specifically looked for; unlike the proposed sponsored instructions.
