A report says that Apple is planning to release a cheaper iPad next year. Digitimes claims that it has spoken to sources with information about a new 9.7-inch iPad retailing for about US$ 259 (RM 1,059) in 2018.
The current 9.7-inch iPad retails for RM 1,549 on the official Apple store. To the company, this price range is not appealing enough for certain markets. This is especially true for enterprise customers as well as price conscious consumers.
Unfortunately the tablet market has been experiencing a decline for the past few years as the market matures. This is true for for all manufacturers, not just Apple. Hence perhaps why the company is embarking on this new iPad strategy.
No specifications has been shared for the new tablet, but speculations are rife that the tablet will be the 2017 tablet, with better economics of scale due to the lowering costs of components. The new tablet is allegedly will be heading to market sometime in second half of 2018.
Do take this news with a grain of salt but, if it is true, we could see a new Apple tablet for around RM 1,100.
