The Sarawak government has received approval from Bank Negara Malaysia to introduce its own electronic payment service. Sarawak Pay, as it is currently called, is set to be implemented at a state level and allow people to pay for various government services.
This would allow Sarawakians to pay for things like land rent and assessment rates. Making it far more convenient to deal with government functions. Sarawak Pay is also destined to be integrated with outlets under the Sarawak Economic Development Corporation; which includes hotels.
Sarawak Chief Minister Abang Johari Openg announced the approval a Youth Forum at the Borneo Convention Centre. Promising to also build an mobile app to support Sarawak Pay.
The new electronic payment service is set to be introduced at some point next year. There doesn’t appear to be a solid release date as of yet, but this will likely be introduced once Sarawak finalises its plans.
