Preorders for the latest iPhone 8 and Apple Watch Series 3 started last Friday, and it looks like sales for the iPhone 8 isn’t doing quite as well. KGI Securities recently reported that the yet to be released iPhone X could be hurting iPhone 8 sales. However, not everything is bad, KGI also reports that sales of the Apple Watch Series 3 is doing better than expected.
In its report, KGI notes that the latest iPhones usually ships in 3 to 6 weeks after being ordered. However, the shipping time for the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus is only 1 to 2 weeks. KGI believes that the iPhone X could be affecting the demand for the iPhone 8, as potential buyers are waiting for the iPhone X, which will be available later this November.
As for the latest Apple Watch Series 3, it looks like people really do want a smartwatch with cellular connectivity on board. KGI says that the Apple Watch Series 3 with GPS and LTE is seeing “significantly stronger-than-expected pre-order demand”. The shipping time for the GPS + Cellular Apple Watch is 3 to 4 weeks, while shipping time for the GPS only variant is only 5 to 7 days.
This report is not a total surprise though. The iPhone X may be much more expensive, starting from US$999 (about RM4,190), people would rather pay more to own the latest piece of technology with more features on board. The iPhone 8 is just an incremental update over last year’s iPhone 7, sporting a similar design.
