We all know that the automotive industry is changing, electric vehicles are paving the way forward and autonomous driving technology is slowly reaching to a production level readiness. Instead of fighting it, Jaguar imagines that the one part you might own in a future filled with autonomous cars is the steering wheel. Meet Sayer.
Sayer is Jaguar’s first voice-activated artificial intelligence (AI) steering wheel that helps drivers to carry out hundreds of tasks. Sayer could signal your membership of our on-demand service club. A club which offers either sole ownership or the option of sharing the car with others in your community.
Picture this, you are at home and you have a place to be. You speak to Sayer saying that you need a car ready and even tell Sayer which part of the route to take and which parts of the route you would like to drive yourself. I would definitely route the car through amazing roads only to let it drive itself in the traffic filled areas. Done with the ride? Take out the steering wheel and move on with your journey.
Although that would also mean that you have to carry the steering wheel to the meeting as well. At least, the Sayer looks absolutely gorgeous! The steering wheel doesn’t have the shape of a wheel anymore and the Sayer owes its name to Malcolm Sayer who is a prominent designer from Jaguar’s past between 1951 and 1970.
