Malwarebyes has introduces Malwarebytes for Mac; it’s first security solution for Apple made computers. According to the company, there is an ever increasing threat of malware for Macs, and it’s trying to get users to realise that they need a greater level of protection.
According to the security solutions company, the number of malware detections on Macs in Q2 2017 has surpassed the number of samples seen in all of 2016. Additionally, more Mac malware families have been identified this year than there has ever been in the history of the Mac.
“Mac threats are not taken seriously enough in the security community today,” said Thomas Reed, Director of Mac and Mobile, Malwarebytes. “Adware and potentially unwanted programs are becoming a major problem for Mac users. Some very popular apps have been known to carry these threats and despite protections in place, the App Store is not immune to these threats.”
Malwarebytes for Mac is designed to be as lightweight as possible, to reduce its impact on how the system runs. As usual, there are free and paid versions of the antivirus. Free users are only provided with the basic malware scanner, while premium users receive automatic updates and real-time protection.
Apple devices may have historically been less threatened by malware, but that isn’t really the case anymore. Macs especially are becoming more attractive as targets thanks to their current popularity. Although, most people will be fine if they pay attention to what’s going on and avoid providing access to every pop up that appears in front of them.
