[Leak] Android 8.0 is Android Oreo

Fourteen letters have gone by, as we are now in the age of Nougat for Android. But not for long, as a leak (straight from Google too!) suggests that Oreo will be the next name for Android O.

There are not many leaks that has been shared online, but one in particular that was inadvertently shared by the Android team on Google+ gave a big hint. The video is a promotion video for the Android announcement event, and someone noticed that the file name has the word “Oreo” in it. Of course the video was promptly taken down, but we can be (mostly) assured that Oreo will be the next name for Android.

Furthermore, Google will be doing a live stream on 21 August, 2.40pm New York time (which is 22 August, 2.40am Malaysian time). The quote from the event states:

Android O is touching down to earth with the total solar eclipse, bringing some super (sweet) new powers!

If the name is confirmed, Oreo will be the second brand name after KitKat, and we may expect some interesting cross promotion happening between Google and the Oreo brand. Of course nothing is official until the announcement, which will happen in the next couple of days.
