Sony Launches 2017 4K HDR Bravia TVs in Malaysia; Retail from RM3,099

Sony has just introduced its 2017 range of 4K HDR Bravia TVs in Malaysia. These include the impressive Bravia A1 OLED TV, as well as a slew of Bravia X series TVs priced at various price points. In fact, the most affordable 4K HDR TV from Sony retails at only RM3,099.

Let’s start with Sony’s best offering yet: the Bravia A1. Arriving in Malaysia in June 2017, this 4K HDR OLED TV features Sony’s new 4K HDR Processor X1 Extreme, which promises “superb texture, depth, colour, and contrast.” Other than that, the Bravia A1 also boasts “Acoustic Surface” technology.

According to Sony, the entire screen of the Bravia A1 “resonates with sound emanating directly from the screen itself.” Based on our short time with the TV, the Acoustic Surface technology seems to provide pretty great audio quality too. Shipped with Android TV out of the box, the Bravia A1 is available in two sizes: the 65-inch model retails at RM29,999, while the 55-inch variant goes for RM16,999.

And then there’s the Bravia X94E and X93E series. Aside from featuring the same 4K HDR Processor X1 Extreme processor as the Bravia A1, these two 4K TVs also support Dolby Vision – Dolby laboratories’ HDR format. Naturally, the X94E and X93E come with Android TV out of the box too.

Oddly enough, these two series are only sold in one size for our market. The X94E is only available in 75-inch for RM25,999, while the 55-inch X93E retails at RM11,999. Both models will be available in Malaysia from May 2017.

Outside of the premium range is the Bravia X85E series. Powered by Sony’s 4K HDR Processor X1 – not quite the same as the X1 Extreme processor found on the higher-end TVs – the X85E is equipped with Sony’s 4K X-Reality Pro engine. Basically, the processing engine can upscale and improve the quality of non-4K content; the X85E runs on Android TV as well.

Two sizes of the Bravia X85E will be landing in Malaysia from May 2017 onwards. The 65-inch model is priced at RM9,999, while the bigger 75-inch variant goes for RM16,999.

If you’re looking for something more affordable, there’s the Bravia X80E and X70E. While both models feature Sony’s 4K X-Reality Pro engine, only the X80E comes with Android TV. That being said, the X70E does feature apps like YouTube and Netflix.

The Bravia X80E and X70E aren’t as well-equipped as Sony’s other higher-end TVs, but their price tags are rather compelling – especially for 4K HDR TVs. The X80E comes in three sizes: 55-inch (RM6,999), 49-inch (RM4,499) and 43-inch (RM3,899). All three models will be sold here from next month onwards.

The Bravia X70E, on the other hand, is the most affordable Sony 4K HDR TV launched today. Four sizes of the X70E will be available in Malaysia: 65-inch (RM7,199), 55-inch (RM4,999), 49-inch (RM3,699), and 43-inch (RM3,099). The 65-inch and 55-inch models will arrive here sometime in June, while the two smaller models will be available sometime next month.
