Lenovo has announced the latest entry to its Miix convertible laptop family in the Miix 720. This 12-inch tablet follows the same detachable keyboard design as its brethren, and is more of a hardware refresh than anything else.
Powering the Miix 720 is a new seventh generation Intel Core processor. Lenovo is offering options up to the Core i7; although the press release doesn’t say if these will be the lower powered Y-variants of the processors. We imagine that this would be the case, considering that the older Miix 700 runs on a Core m7 processor.
On the other hand, the Miix 720 bumps the upper limit of hardware choices. Memory now goes up to 16GB of RAM, while storage is capped at a 1TB PCIe SSD. These choices will undoubtedly nudge the price of the laptop upward.
The display itself is a 12-inch QHD+ screen with a resolution of 2880 x 1920 pixels. This also much better than the 1440p display on the older Miix 700; which makes for quite a bit more quality for the device.
Also in the mix is full Windows Hello integration via a 1MP front camera with IR camera support. The front camera itself is clearly not meant for much else, although one could probably get away with video conferencing. To complete the tradition, the Miix 720 also sports a 5MP camera on the back of the device.
Lenovo is promising up to eight hours of battery life on the Miix 720; which isn’t too bad for a laptop.
Connections to other devices is supplied by Thunderbolt 3, USB 3.0, and USB 2.0 ports. There’s only one of each, but it represents quite an array to choose from. There’s no telling if an adapter will be bundled for the Type-C connection of the Thunderbolt 3 port; but we don’t expect one to be included.
The Lenovo Miix 720 will be available in two colours (Champagne Gold and Iron Gray) from the beginning of April 2017. The device starts from $999.99 (about RM4500); but also includes the keyboard. Lenovo also says that some regions may also bundle the optional Lenovo Active Pen 2 (worth $59.99 or about RM270), but isn’t clear on which these will be.
