Huawei’s latest flagship phablet, the Mate 8, has been officially launched in Malaysia. Retailing from RM2,099, the Mate 8 is actually even more affordable than the Huawei Mate S, which is quite a surprise considering how well-equipped the Mate 8 is.

Huawei Malaysia mentioned that the Mate 8 will be available for purchase in stores from the 11th of March onwards. If you’d like to get it online instead, it will go on sale later today on Vmall.my and Lazada. According to Lazada, the Mate 8 will be available for purchase at 5PM today, and it will ship to customers on the 11th of March.

Specification-wise, the Mate 8 is a well-equipped flagship smartphone. It has a 6-inch 1920 x 1080 IPS display, a Kirin 950 octa-core processor paired with up to 4GB of RAM, 32GB or 64GB of expandable storage, a rear fingerprint sensor, and a generous 4,000mAh battery. In the camera department, it has a 16MP rear camera with optical image stabilisation – as well as phase detection autofocus – and an 8MP front-facing shooter.

Also announced at today’s launch event are the Huawei MediaPad M2 10.0 and two new variants of the Huawei Watch: the Elegant and Jewel. Unfortunately, Huawei Malaysia did not reveal the availability and retail prices of these products yet.

As many as two variants of the Huawei Mate 8 will be offered: the Standard – which has 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage – and Premium (4GB RAM and 64GB storage) models. The Standard variant comes in Moonlight Silver and Space Grey, while the Premium model is available in Champagne Gold and Mocha Brown. The Mate 8 retails at RM2,099 and RM2,399 for the Standard and Premium models respectively.
