HTC Vive Pre-Order Window Opens; Malaysia Not Listed

As announced by HTC a few months ago, the pre-order window for its upcoming HTC Vive VR headset will be going live tonight (11PM local time). It’s worth mentioning that each customer is only limited to one headset per order. In addition to that, the HTC Vive will be coming with three free games as well.

There is, however, a slight problem. Prior to this, HTC mentioned in a blog post a few weeks ago saying that pre-orders will be made availble worldwide. But, the most recent blog post by the company indicates otherwise. Pre-orders will in fact be opened for 24 countries only, most of which include several European countries, China, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand.

Unfortunately, not a single Southeast Asian country was listed in the pre-order availability list. Price-wise, the HTC Vive will cost €899 (about RM4,144) for countries in Europe, while in the United Kingdom, the VR headset will cost £689 (around RM 4,025). For Asian countries like Australia, China, Taiwan and Japan, the HTC Vive will be retailing for US$899 (approximately RM3,790) , 6,888 Chinese Yuan (about RM4,400), NT$28,288 (roughly RM3,580) and 111,999 Japanese Yen (around RM4,170) respectively.

According to HTC, its upcoming VR headset will begin to ship on the 5th of April. Like most major product releases, despite Malaysia not being in the list of countries to receive the first wave of the HTC Vive, in time, the VR headset may still be made available in Malaysia sooner or later; but we wouldn’t hold our breath waiting.
