360 degree cameras aren’t a big thing yet, but Nikon wants to get ahead of the game by introducing the company’s first ever action camera that is capable of recording 360 degree videos.
Not only does the KeyMission 360 shoot 360 degree videos, the videos are shot in 4K resolution. The action camera has two lenses, one on the front and another on the back. It’s shockproof of up to 2 metres, and waterproof up to 30 metres. Not only that, the camera also has a feature called electronic vibration reduction, an image stabilisation technology that minimises blur caused by camera shake.
The sides of the camera also show that the KeyMission 360 sports Bluetooth, WiFi, and NFC, probably for pairing and connection with the user’s other smart devices. Besides that, Nikon hasn’t shared any other information regarding the KeyMission 360’s pricing, availability, battery life or even the field of view of each lens. However, seeing that it’s an action camera that is capable of 360 degree 4K recording, it might be priced slightly higher than the consumer grade action cameras.
Other companies like Ricoh and 360fly makes 360 degree action cameras too, but their products often have more than two lenses that cover the entire action camera. Nikon’s KeyMission 360, on the other hand, only has lenses on the front and back, but it is perfectly capable of recording full 360 degree videos. Watch the video below and see for yourself:
Nikon is calling the KeyMission 360 action camera a “new family” of action cameras, so we’re bound to see more of them released by the company in the future.
