CES 2016: Acer Unveils World’s First Chromebase with Intel Core Processor, Alongside New Chromebook 11

Acer Chromebase 24

While many consider Chrome OS as a very light operating system that doesn’t require much firepower, it doesn’t stop Acer from launching the new Chromebase 24 all-in-one PC which is powered by the much more powerful Intel Core processor. In fact, the company claimed that the new AIO is the first Chromebase in the world to feature such processor.

Equipped with 23.8-inch full HD IPS multi-touch display, Acer also claimed that the Chromebase 24 has the largest display in the market. With a chassis can be tilted from -5 to 30 degrees, the AIO also features up to 8GB of DDR3L RAM alongside 802.11ac Wi-Fi connectivity, Gigabit Ethernet, four digital microphones, adjustable HD webcam, and supports VESA mount.

However, Acer didn’t specify the actual Intel Core processor that will come with the Chromebase 24 though. Additionally, the company also left out the AIO’s internal storage, pricing and availability from its CES 2016’s announcement which is rather odd.

Alongside Chromebase 24, the company has also announced a new addition to its Chromebook 11 line-up in the form of CB3-131. Featuring an 11.6-inch non-glare Acer ComfyView display with a resolution of 1366×768, the new Chrome OS laptop is powered by Intel Celeron quad-core processors with the choice of either 2GB or 4GB RAM and 16GB or 32GB eMMC internal storage.

Other than that, CB3-131 also features dual-band 2×2 MIMO 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity together with USB 3.0, USB 2.0, and HDMI ports. There’s also a SD card reader for users that require more storage on the laptop.

Despite weighing at only 1.1kg, the new model apparently has been reinforced to withstand up to 60kg of downward force on its top cover as well as better resistance against twisting and stress. The corners on CB3-131 are also able to survive without damage against drops from up to 60cm.

Acer pointed that the CB3-131 also features a nano-imprinted pattern on its cover in order to provide the laptop with premium look and feel. In terms of battery life, the laptop is able to last up to 9 hours. While its availability in Malaysia is not yet known at the moment, the CB-131 will be released in US and Europe this February with a starting price tag of USD 179.99 (about RM 781) and EU 329 (about RM 1,546) respectively.
