Samsung Malaysia is set to pull the plug on the Galaxy Note 7 devices sold here – literally. The company has confirmed that the 8,000 pre-order units will be powered down via a software update at 9pm, 31 December 2016.

Just like its previous notice, the company is sending push notifications to all Samsung phones in Malaysia about this update. It is being sent in batches, with our friends at Amanz receiving it earlier today.

Commenting on the matter, a Samsung Malaysia representative has confirmed the matter, and is urging all Note 7 owners who still has not returned the device to do so before the final power down.

As it stands, all Galaxy Note 7 devices are still eligible for return for a full refund, or an exchange to the Galaxy S7 edge. Current Galaxy Note 7 users should call Samsung Malaysia’s careline at 1-800-88-7799 for assistance.
