It looks like Twitter is the latest social media platform to be jumping in the ‘live broadcast’ support bandwagon. According to the company, Twitter will now support live broadcasts straight from the app. That said, the feature is still “powered by Periscope”.
The ‘Go Live’ feature had been earlier introduced in the Twitter app this year, albeit in the form that redirects users to Periscope. This time round, the feature is built right into the Twitter app itself. Interestingly, the live broadcast feature on the Twitter app works almost similarly to that of Facebook Live.
To initiate a live broadcast on the Twitter app, one has to simply click the camera icon that’s present when composing a new tweet. After that, one will be presented with the option to either take a photo, shoot a video, or go live. From there, all that’s left to do is to write a short description about the broadcast and then press ‘Go Live’.
According to Twitter, this feature has already been rolled out to users using the Twitter app on iOS and Android. Those aside, this announcement does make us wonder about the fate of the Periscope app in the future.
