Canon Malaysia has finally bought the long-anticipated EOS M5 Mirrorless camera to the local market. The EOS M5 was originally announced at Photokina in September, where it garnered plenty of attention and interest.
The EOS M5 sports a 24.2 megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor, but what’s new is that Canon has carried over the Dual Pixel AF system from the 70D and 80D pro-sumer DSLRs. This system not only gives the camera fast and accurate auto-focusing, but also touch-to-focus capabilities for focus-racking in video mode.
The EOS M5 also features Canon’s new DIGIC 7 image processor (found also on the PowerShot G7X Mark II) that further enhances the camera’s camera’s tracking capabilities. The camera is able to achieve high-speed continuous AF at 7 fps and 9 fps with AF locked. The DIGIC 7 processor also helps reduce noise when shooting at high ISO speeds.
There is also a built-in 2.36-million-dot electronic viewfinder (EVF) for accurate representation. A new ‘touch and drag’ feature now enables users to do exactly that on the LCD touchscreen to select your subject of focus, all whilst looking through the EVF. The LCD touchscreen is 3.2″ wide and has a tilt range between 85 degrees upwards and 180 degrees downwards (an angle perfect for selfies).
As for the EOS M5’s video recording capabilities, the camera shoots videos at 1080p Full HD resolution at 60p. It also sports 5-axis stabilisation built right into the camera body to reduce shake from videos. WiFi and NFC features are also included to easily transfer photos and videos; Bluetooth functionality is available as well.
The Canon EOS M5 will be available early next year but pre-orders are available at Canon Authorised Dealers and Canon’s new official store on Lazada Malaysia.
The EOS M5 is priced at RM4,699 for just the body, RM5,199 for the 15-45mm kit and RM6,399 for the 18-150mm kit.
